Unleash the Power of Renewables: Generator Hire for Battery Energy Storage Systems, Solar Panels, and Hybrid Solutions.

Round-the-clock generator hire and power solutions

At Generator Rentals Australia, we understand that power is critical for various industries, emergency situations, and large-scale events. That’s why we provide 24/7 generator hire and rental services, ensuring uninterrupted power whenever and wherever you need it.

Whether you require a temporary power solution for construction sites, outdoor events, commercial properties, or emergency backup power, we offer a reliable, fast, and efficient service.

Versatile and capable generator rental range

Our fleet includes generators ranging from compact 2kVA units for small-scale applications to massive 2,000kVA systems capable of powering multi-storey buildings, hospitals, and large industrial sites.

Key generator hire categories and features

  • Small generator hire (2kVA–50kVA). Ideal for camping, mobile food vendors, small business use, and residential power backup. These generators are fuel-efficient, lightweight, and designed for portability.
  • Medium generator hire (100kVA–250kVA). Perfect for construction sites, festivals, and pop-up events. These generators come with acoustically silenced canopies to reduce noise pollution.
  • Large generator hire (500kVA–2,000kVA). Suitable for large industrial sites, high-rise buildings, and emergency power grid support. These units can run in parallel for scalable power solutions and support extended fuel supply connections for long-term use.
  • Trailer-mounted and portable generator hire (6kVA–100kVA). Towable, road-registered units for roadworks, mobile worksites, remote jobs and events where the generator needs to move with the crew. Available as silenced canopy units with on-board fuel tanks for extended runtime.

Additional equipment for hire

  • Lighting towers. Essential for night-time construction, mining operations, and outdoor events to ensure proper visibility and safety.
  • Load banks. Used for testing backup power systems and maintaining efficiency in industrial settings.
  • Fuel tanks and management. Extended fuel supply options to support long-term operations without interruptions.
  • Distribution boards and load cables. Ensuring safe and reliable power distribution for any application.
  • Cable ramps and cable protection. Cable ramps and covers for safe pedestrian and vehicle crossings over power leads, essential for events, public spaces and active worksites.
  • Automatic transfer switches and changeover panels. Automatic and manual changeover between mains and generator supply, so critical systems switch across without intervention.
  • Hybrid battery units and hybrid lighting towers. Battery energy storage paired with a diesel set to cut runtime, fuel use and noise on extended hires.

What does generator hire cost?

Generator hire pricing is quoted per job rather than off a fixed list, because the same 100kVA unit costs very differently to run for a weekend wedding in Brunswick than for a six-month infrastructure project in Gippsland. Five things determine your rate.

What drives the price

  • Generator size (kVA). The single biggest factor. A 20kVA site unit and a 1,000kVA industrial set are an order of magnitude apart. Sizing correctly is the easiest way to control cost, and the sizing guide below shows how.
  • Hire duration. Daily, weekly and monthly rates step down significantly. A weekly rate is well below seven daily rates, and hires beyond one month attract substantial per-day discounts.
  • Delivery and pickup. Charged on distance from our Altona North depot. Metro Melbourne is our lowest rate; regional Victoria and interstate are quoted per job. Smaller units can be collected from the depot at no delivery cost.
  • Fuel. Supplied pre-filled, refuelled on site during the hire, or charged at cost as you use it. Fuel is usually the largest running cost on a long hire, which is why hybrid units often work out cheaper over time.
  • Ancillary equipment. Distribution boards, cables, cable ramps, changeover panels, load banks, lighting towers and fuel tanks are quoted alongside the generator.

How to keep the cost down

  • Size accurately. Oversizing is the most common and most expensive mistake. A generator running at 25% load burns fuel inefficiently and costs more to hire than one correctly matched to the job.
  • Book ahead where you can. Emergency and same-day callouts carry a premium. Planned hires are quoted at standard rates.
  • Ask about longer terms. If the project runs three months or more, talk to us about long-term rates and hire-to-buy. For extended projects, buying sometimes beats hiring, and we will tell you when that is the case.
  • Consider hybrid. On long hires with variable load, a hybrid battery unit can cut fuel consumption materially and pay for itself.

What size generator do I need?

The right size depends on the total power draw of everything running at once, plus the starting surge of any motor-driven equipment such as compressors, pumps, refrigeration, air conditioning and lifts. Undersizing causes overloading and equipment damage. Oversizing wastes fuel and inflates the hire rate. Getting it right is the single biggest lever on what your hire costs.

ApplicationTypical loadRecommended size

Industrial site or miningHeavy machinery, continuous operation1,000–2,000 kVA

A quick sizing calculation

Add up the running wattage of everything that will operate at the same time. For anything with an electric motor, multiply its running wattage by three to allow for the starting surge. Divide the total by 1,000 to get kilowatts, then divide by 0.8 to convert to kVA. That figure is your minimum. Add 20% headroom for safety and for anything you add later.

Single-phase or three-phase?

Most units below about 15kVA are single-phase, suited to domestic and light commercial equipment. Above that, generators are typically three-phase, which is what construction plant, industrial machinery, commercial HVAC and larger events require. If you are not sure which your equipment needs, check the nameplate on the largest item or call us and we will work it out with you.

Not sure? Use the Power Calculator

Our online Power Calculator walks through your equipment list and recommends a size. Or call the team, most jobs can be sized over the phone in a few minutes.

Where we deliver

Our depot is in Altona North, and our in-house freight team delivers across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, with interstate delivery available for larger hires.

  • Melbourne metro. Same-day delivery is generally available across all Melbourne metropolitan suburbs, the CBD, inner west, inner east, the south-east, the northern suburbs and the Mornington Peninsula. Geelong and surrounds are usually next-day. If you are searching for generator hire near you and you are anywhere in metro Melbourne, we can almost certainly have a unit on site today.
  • Regional Victoria. We deliver to Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, the Latrobe Valley, the Surf Coast and rural sites across the state. On hires of a week or more, freight is generally included in the package; for shorter regional hires, ask for a delivery quote.
  • Interstate. For larger and longer hires we deliver into New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, most often for mining, infrastructure and major event work. Lead times are typically 24 to 48 hours depending on unit size and destination. Call us with the project details and we will work out the logistics.
  • Depot pickup. Smaller generators, lighting towers and ancillary equipment can be collected directly from Altona North, useful for short-notice or one-off jobs, and it removes the delivery charge.

Industries we supply

The right generator, fuel arrangement and ancillary kit varies considerably by sector. Our team has worked across all of them.

Construction

From 20kVA for tools and site lighting on a residential build, through to 300kVA and above for cranes, hoists and site offices on staged commercial developments. Acoustically silenced canopies keep noise inside urban site limits, and units can run in parallel as demand ramps up through the project.

Events and festivals

Music festivals, weddings, corporate functions, sporting events and outdoor markets. We design the distribution as well as supplying the generator, covering stage audio, lighting rigs, catering, vendor stalls and back-of-house, with cable ramps and RCD-protected boards for public areas, and a backup unit where the schedule cannot tolerate a failure.

Healthcare and data centres

Standby and emergency backup for hospitals, aged care, medical clinics and data centre infrastructure. These applications need stable output suitable for sensitive equipment, plus load-bank verification before deployment and documented testing throughout the hire.

Mining and remote operations

Continuous-duty sets for mine sites, remote camps and exploration work, with units to 2,000kVA, extended fuel supply, and parallel configurations for redundancy. We coordinate interstate freight on these projects.

Manufacturing and industrial

Backup for manufacturing plants, cold storage and processes that cannot take downtime. Emergency replacements within hours across metro Melbourne, and planned units scheduled around maintenance shutdowns and switchboard upgrades.

Film, TV and production

Quiet-run generators for film sets, location shoots and outdoor broadcasts, sized for lighting rigs and camera and sound infrastructure without interfering with audio recording.
