Generator Generators for Sale Melbourne

Generators for Sale Melbourne

East Coast Generators sells new and used diesel generators from 2kVA to 2,500kVA, from our Altona North showroom in Melbourne and delivered Australia-wide. As an authorised Kohler and SDMO dealer, now trading under the Rehlko name, we supply, install, commission and service every unit we sell, so the team that quotes your generator is the team that keeps it running ten years later. Whether you need a portable 8kVA unit for a work ute, a 250kVA standby set for a commercial building, or a 2,000kVA industrial genset, we size it against your actual load rather than selling you the nearest thing in stock.

New generators for sale

Our new generators come with full manufacturer warranty, factory commissioning and a documented service schedule. Every unit is supplied with load-tested certification and the compliance paperwork your installation requires.

The brands we sell

SDMO and Rehlko. Kohler Energy became Rehlko in September 2024, and SDMO has been part of the same family since 2005, so the KD-series units you may know as Kohler-SDMO are now branded Rehlko. Same engineering, same French and American manufacturing, same parts supply. We have sold and serviced this line for over two decades and we stock the parts.

Power ranges

  • 2kVA–20kVA Portable and single-phase
  • 22kVA–60kVA Small commercial three-phase
  • 60kVA–250kVA Commercial
  • 250kVA–800kVA Industrial
  • 800kVA–2,500kVA Large-scale industrial and prime power

Used generators for sale

Looking for a cost-effective power solution? Our used generators offer a lower entry price without giving up reliability, and every one is inspected, load tested and serviced before it leaves us.

  • Thoroughly inspected and serviced. Mechanical inspection, load testing, a full service and performance validation on every unit, so you know it works before it is delivered.
  • Warranty and support. Each used generator is backed by a written twelve-month warranty against faulty workmanship, materials or design, on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, with the full service records supplied.
  • Budget-friendly power. A sensible choice for businesses and homeowners after cost-effective standby or site power.

What we look for when we take one in

Running hours, service history, engine condition against alternator condition, and whether the unit ran standby or prime duty. That is the difference between buying from a dealer and buying a marketplace listing: we can tell you what the hours actually mean for the life left in the unit.

Home and business backup generators, Melbourne

Standby power for a house, a clinic, a small business or a commercial building works differently from a portable unit you wheel out during a blackout. A proper standby generator is permanently installed, wired through an automatic transfer switch, and starts on its own within seconds of losing mains power. You do not need to be home for it to work.

What a home or small business standby system involves

  • Sizing. A typical Melbourne home running lights, fridge, hot water, internet and a few circuits needs 8–15kVA. Add ducted air conditioning or a pool pump and that rises quickly. A small clinic or office is usually 15–40kVA.
  • Automatic transfer switch. This is what makes it automatic. It senses the mains failure, starts the generator, switches the load across, and reverses when mains returns. We supply and install Kohler and SDMO transfer switches.
  • Installation and compliance. Concrete pad or frame, fuel supply, exhaust routing, electrical connection by a licensed electrician, and the compliance documentation your insurer and local council may require.
  • Fuel. Diesel for larger units and longer autonomy; petrol or LPG for smaller domestic sets. We will talk through runtime and refuelling before you commit.
  • Servicing. A standby generator that has never been run is not a standby generator. Ours come with a service schedule and we run test cycles as part of it.

Talk to us about a home backup generator

We will look at your switchboard, your load, and where the unit can physically go, then quote the whole job, generator, transfer switch, installation and commissioning, as one figure rather than a series of surprises.

What does a generator cost?

Generator pricing varies more than most equipment purchases, because the generator itself is often only 60–70% of the delivered cost. Here is what makes up the total.

  • The unit. Driven by kVA rating, brand, enclosure type (open frame, silenced canopy, weatherproof), control panel specification, and whether it is new or used. A used unit typically lands 40–60% below new for comparable output.
  • Installation. Pad or plinth, electrical connection, transfer switch, exhaust and ventilation, fuel supply. On a standby installation this is frequently a third of the project cost, and it is the part cheap quotes leave out.
  • Delivery. Quoted on distance and unit weight. Metro Melbourne is straightforward; interstate and remote sites need craneage and permits on larger units.
  • Commissioning and compliance. Load testing, certification and documentation. Non-negotiable on healthcare, data centre and any insured standby installation.
  • Running costs. Fuel consumption at your expected load, service intervals, and parts availability. A slightly dearer unit with better fuel economy and local parts support is usually cheaper across ten years, so ask us to run the comparison.

New or used, which makes sense?

Buy new if
  • The unit is mission-critical or will run regularly.
  • You need full warranty for insurance or compliance.
  • You want current-generation emissions and fuel efficiency.
Buy used if
  • It is genuine standby duty with low expected hours.
  • Budget is the binding constraint.
  • You need something on site quickly; used stock is available immediately where new units can carry lead times.

Tell us your load, your site and whether it is standby or prime duty, and we will come back with an itemised quote covering the unit, delivery, installation and commissioning. Finance and lease options are available on new units.
